Criterion's 1,000th release Godzilla: The Showa-Era Films, 1954-1975 box set consisting of 15 films on eight Blu-rays arrived today.

Oh, where to begin?

In addition to watching King Kong vs. Godzilla (1963), primarily because I rewatch them the least I think I am especially looking forward to seeing the two smaller budgeted Kaiju movies set in the South Seas - Ebirah, Horror of the Deep (1966) and Son of Godzilla (1967). Coincidentally the former picture was originally written for King Kong.

I am very excited for the much-anticipated Godzilla: The Shōwa-Era Films, 1954–1975 from Criterion box set in stores on Blu-ray on October 29.

“These 15 films are accompanied by a slew of supplemental material that brings the King of the Monsters to life in a giant deluxe hardcover book, with new essays & newly commissioned illustrations from 16 artists; new & archival interviews with cast & crew members; & so much more!”

My favorite? Invasion of Astro-Monster (1965)!

On July 25, 1976, a two-kilometre-long (1.2 mi) Cydonian mesa got some ”facetime” from NASA's Viking spacecraft.

It's almost time, kids. The clock is ticking. 100 days till Halloween!!!

July 10th is Ultraman Day – the first day Ultraman had ever appeared publicly on TV. Shuwatch!

Yeah just like Airplane!, ”First the earth cooled. And then the dinosaurs came, but they got too big and fat, so they all died and they turned into oil...”

How did I become one of the weirdos?

As an only child, it just happened. I was a monster kid of the supernatural seventies in addition to books, magazines, and comic books there were the Big Three television networks and UHF local TV with horror hosts (Sir Graves and The Ghoul) later pay television. And then computers and the Internet came.

Did you see the announcement regarding Tsuburaya Productions’ Ultra series and the upcoming releases of Ultra Q and Ultraman?

They are going to be officially released in the US after years of Chaiyo Productions blocking Ultra Series a court ruled over a rights dispute based on 1976 agreement between Thailand’s Chaiyo Productions and original creators Tsuburaya Productions and now we hopefully get the Ultra library (some 28 TV series and 11 movies) available over time!
